Stratigraphy, Continued

Warm up: Think about Relative Age and Absolute Age. When a geologists looks at the stratigraphy (the rock layers) in any given area, can he or she give those rocks an absolute age or a relative age? Explain your answer.

  • Paste Igneous Stratigraphy on Page 109, Stratigraphy reading on page 110
  • Igneous stratigraphy discussion and notes
  • START reading (stratigraphy Lesson 1) and response essay on Stratigraphy
  • HOMEWORK:
    • - Bring in Graph paper for Thursday
    • - finish reading and work on Stratigraphy essay questions on page 111 in notebook (You will only have 10 min. in class to work on it tomorrow!!)
    • READING RESPONSE QUESTIONS:
    • write a short essay that addresses the following questions:
    • Paragraph 1: How has stratigraphy helped scientists understand Earth's history?
    • Paragraph 2: How do scientists gather stratigraphic data?
    • Paragraph 3: Who has made contributions to the field of stratigraphy?
    • NOTE: Make sure you use specific examples from the text on page 110 to support your argument!
